Self-inquiry is a powerful skill to develop. It allows you to be aware of and understand what is happening in your inner world, which effects your outer world more than you often realize.
Some of us are more prone to look inward based on our personalities and nature, but self-inquiry is something anyone can learn and grow in.
A framework for thinking about self-inquiry is through to entry points:
- The Body (physical)
- The Mind (mental/psychological)
Some examples of self-inquiry through the body are being in nature, body scans, breathwork, EDMR, movement, dance, singing, and meditation.
Some examples of self-inquiry through the mind are journaling, talk therapy, engaging conversations, learning through reading or podcasts, writing/thinking in response to specific prompts, using frameworks for reflection, and meditation.
What you discover from self-inquiry allows for more intentional, focused self-reflection, which leads to taking responsibility, which leads to taking action. Then, the process repeats itself.
self-inquiry -> self-reflection -> responsibility -> action
This whole process is a way to live with self-awareness that makes for a rich, fulfilling life. Not necessarily an easy life, but one that is grounded in truth and freedom.
