My friend, Daniel, and I recently did The Hot Ones Challenge, which involves eating 10 wings tossed in progressively spicier hot sauces, and asking questions as you go along.

It started (and continues) as a show where the host asks celebrities interview questions, and they respond while trying to keep it together in handling the spice.

I really enjoy this show because the host asks really thoughtful questions you don’t hear in other interviews. And of course, I’ve always been curious to see if I could handle how hot the wings get.

It was so much fun going through this self-induced, slightly painful experience with a friend, but what I enjoyed most was learning some new things about a friend, and even myself, in answering the questions we came up with that were specific to each other.

It got me thinking about wanting to stay curious towards all the people in my life I care about, and continuing to learn more about their story, as well as who they are now.

Staying curious towards the people we love allows us to grow in our relationships and make them stronger. It’s like being intentional about taking care of a plant so it’s healthy and the roots can grow deeper.

Sometimes the thing that makes a relationship grow is purely having fun, sometimes it’s diving deep, and sometimes it’s both at the same time. But one thing’s for sure, a neglected plant is not going to be very healthy over the long haul.

HI THERE.

I’m Shel Kim Rollison, a writer, singer-songwriter, and coach. I release music as Our Daughter. Welcome to my daily blog!

Austin Kleon once wrote, “If it’s not online, it doesn’t exist.” After decades of writing offline, having my thoughts and insights “not exist”, I was inspired by Seth Godin to decide once to commit to a daily blog, and here we are.

I write about my reflections, insights, and life learnings, including those around self-awareness, growth, creativity, and how to live a life true to ourselves.

However you came to be here, I hope you find something that’s helpful.
